As a midwife working with women and families with socially complex/ safeguarding needs this role is to support the / Safeguarding Team and Socially Complex Leads to:
- Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women and families.
- Work in partnership with other health care professionals and liaise with other agencies involved in the provisions of maternity services and seek advice from the Safeguarding and Socially Complex Lead Midwives as required.
- Recognise that the vulnerability factors can be interrelated and that parental factors increase vulnerability to child abuse and neglect.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- First degree in Midwifery or equivalent experience
- Evidence of post qualification education activity
Desirable criteria
- Mentorship/Practice Supervisors or Practice Assessors qualification
- Evidence of safeguarding post qualification education
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate practice in all areas of relating to midwifery
- Evidence of multidisciplinary working
- Experience of working in a safeguarding role
Desirable criteria
- Experience of presenting audit/information at external venues
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- An ability to compile complex written information
- Relevant knowledge of the principles of safeguarding, Mental Health and public health issues that may contribute and reduce these
- Ability to communicate difficult and sensitive information
- Ability to provide care to women whilst remaining impartial of opinion and maintaining confidentiality
- Clear understanding of the safeguarding national agenda
