About the Role

This opportunity will initially be for 12 months within the Permanence Team, with potential to move within the Children and Families Service where a post is available.

The initial role involves providing permanence through identifying and matching children and adopters. The focus is on securing early permanence by managing a child's journey to adoption from the point it is considered a potential outcome. The team seeks experienced and passionate social workers to work alongside supportive managers.

The Permanence Social Worker will collaborate with fieldwork teams during care plan twin tracking with adoption plans, complete Child Permanence Reports and Sibling Assessments during court proceedings, and ensure the child is well prepared for adoption. The role includes supporting adopters with detailed paperwork to facilitate matching, introduction, and placement support.

The Permanence Social Worker will take on the role from the point of Placement Order, supporting children through matching, introduction, and settling into their adoptive families until the Adoption Order is granted.

A DBS enhanced check is required for this regulated activity.

About You

To apply, you must:

  • Have a Social Work degree or equivalent (CQSW, DipSW with a children’s services specialism) and be registered with Social Work England.
  • Preferably have several years of post-qualifying experience in Child Care social work, including adoption, family finding, and matching to Adoption Orders.
  • Understand the role of the Permanence Team and demonstrate transferable skills applicable to the role.
  • Be able to produce high-standard reports such as Child Permanence Reports, Adoption Support plans, and Annex A’s, and work within tight deadlines. Demonstrate skills in innovative, relationship-based social work, collaborating with families and professionals. Experience with Signs of Safety methodology is desirable.
  • Show enthusiasm, passion for practice, and a commitment to fostering a culture of reflection and learning.
  • Commit to Trauma-Informed practice.
  • Hold a full valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
