3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

• A qualified Social Worker with post-qualification experience is required to provide statutory social work services to individuals and families in vulnerable situations.

• The role involves managing a varied caseload, conducting assessments of need and risk, safeguarding, and working collaboratively in multi-agency settings to improve outcomes and promote wellbeing.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

• Undertake assessments of need and risk informing evidence-based decisions and care planning.

• Conduct safeguarding enquiries in line with legislation and local policies.

• Develop and implement strengths-based, outcome-focused care plans.

• Monitor and review care plans to ensure they meet service user needs.

• Identify and escalate risks appropriately to minimise harm.

• Build professional, person-centred relationships with service users, carers, and advocates.

• Manage complex and higher-risk cases effectively.

• Work collaboratively with other professionals across organisational boundaries.

• Maintain accurate, auditable case records in accordance with statutory requirements.

Skills/Experience:

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, professional ethics, and multi-disciplinary practice.

• Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload, including complex cases.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate complexity and risk.

• Excellent communication skills, demonstrating empathy and effective decision-making support.

• Ability to work autonomously, prioritising workload and managing time efficiently.

• Experience working in partnership with multi-agency teams and external professionals.

• The role occasionally requires managing challenging behaviour and exposure to distressing situations, often indirectly.

• The role demands high concentration and vigilance in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment.

• May provide mentorship to students or those in their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).

• No direct supervisory or budgetary responsibilities but awareness of budgetary implications in care planning is expected.

Additional Information:

• Degree or post-graduate qualification in Social Work (or equivalent professional qualification).

• Registered with Social Work England.

• Post-qualification experience in statutory social work, including assessments of need and risk.
