Justice Social Work are seeking to recruit one permanent social worker for the West Community Team. The position is based in Stranraer but covers the wider West region, including Stranraer/Rhins, Newton Stewart/Machars, and the Stewartry. The successful candidate is expected to spend at least one day per week in the Stranraer office and may use other social work facilities across the region. Justice Social Work provides services to individuals appearing before the criminal courts, offenders under supervision in the community, and those in prison. As part of the Social Work Department, we are committed to protecting children and vulnerable adults.

Our team values high professional standards and ongoing development. We have made significant progress in assessment practices and in delivering programs that challenge offending behavior and support positive change. We also participate in managing high-risk offenders through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. The role reports to the Senior Social Worker and involves working within a motivated team dedicated to these objectives.

The core duties include providing social work services to the Courts, preparing Court Reports, conducting risk assessments, supervising offenders on statutory orders, and delivering personal change initiatives. Candidates should possess strong personal and professional skills and be able to relate effectively to service users, their families, and other agencies.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • A Dip SW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential.
  • You must be registered or in the process of registering with the SSSC and committed to maintaining your registration.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to Justice Social Work.
  • A current driving license is essential; consideration will be given to alternative transport options if a disability precludes driving.

This role is classified as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join or update their PVG Scheme membership prior to employment.

Applicants who have resided outside the UK within the last five years will need to provide a police record check from the relevant authorities in their country of residence.

We offer an attractive benefits package, including access to the Vivup discount platform, the Local Government Pension Scheme (Scotland), a Cycle-to-Work scheme, financial support through My Money Matters, and wellbeing guidance from our trained Wellbeing Champions.

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome applications from individuals with diverse perspectives and experiences, especially those underrepresented in our organization.
