A crisis resolution home treatment team is the NHS service that tries to keep people in a mental health crisis out of hospital by treating them at home, so the work moves quickly and the risks are real. Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is recruiting a full-time, permanent Band 6 Social Worker for its Crisis Resolution Home Treatment service, based at Rochford Hospital, to assess and plan care for adults and older adults with mental health problems.
EPUT provides mental health, community health and learning disability services across Essex. The Care Quality Commission's most recent trust-level report, a well-led assessment published on 27 August 2026, rated the Trust Requires improvement for well-led, with breaches of regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) and regulation 17 (good governance). The inspectors found uneven staff experiences of culture, some staff fearing reprisal for speaking up, weak board oversight of frontline care and inconsistent learning from incidents. They also found a cohesive board, good financial management and ambitious plans, including a shared electronic patient record. Several services have been rated Good, including long-stay rehabilitation wards and child and adolescent wards, though community and crisis services were last rated between 2018 and 2023, and the 2023 report rated the Trust's crisis services Requires improvement overall. Ask at interview how the team has responded.
This is not a role for newly qualified social workers. The advert says applicants must have completed their post-qualification preceptorship period, and the person specification lists "completion of AYSE", which we take to mean the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment. In practice this means experience of working as a registered social worker in England.
That limits the sponsorship line. The Trust says applications from people who need Skilled Worker sponsorship are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. Because the post needs a UK-registered social worker who has completed their first year in practice, applicants from abroad are unlikely to meet it unless they have already worked in England. Check current Home Office guidance. This is general information, not immigration advice.
The advert has a wrong regulator. One duty refers to breaches of conduct under the NMC and HCPC codes. Social workers in England are regulated by Social Work England, which is the registration you need.
Expect on-call duties and a car. The advert lists taking part in the on-call arrangements for the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Service, working flexibly across the service and covering home treatment and crisis work as needed. It also requires you to drive and have access to a vehicle for work.
Visits can carry risk. The duties include identifying people with violent or potentially violent behaviour in the caseload, taking care when visiting them, and organising joint visits where needed.
