Description

Lancashire County Council Children’s Services is a progressive and innovative place, embracing strengths‑based approaches and the Family Safeguarding model of practice. There are a range of exciting opportunities available across our social work teams as we go through positive changes and develop our service. This is a wonderful time to come and work for us! As one of the largest local authorities with a diverse and evolving range of services there are also many opportunities for future career progression and professional development. The right support is key to effective practice and your positive experience as a Social Worker, and we have a fantastic group of managers who share our values and aspirations for our service and their Social Workers to provide the support you need to thrive in your work. The Family Safeguarding model is our model of practice, and we use a strengths‑based approach across every team to work with children, young people and families, to offer the right support at the right time.

About The Role…

Within the Children with Disabilities Service we are passionate about improving the lives of children with severe and profound disabilities and their families. We thrive on creative planning, ensuring the child is kept at the centre of our practice, with full regard for a whole family approach. In this specialist social work service, you will have the opportunity to work long‑term with children and their families, from birth to 18, and up to 25 for our care leavers — building trusted relationships with families and empowering them to thrive. No two days are ever the same, and every day brings an opportunity to create meaningful change.

What You’ll Do…

As part of this dedicated team, you have the opportunity to cover all areas of social work practice with children, including undertaking assessments, direct work, supporting Children in Need, Children in Our Care and Care Leavers, Safeguarding and court work, Mental Capacity assessments and Court of Protection and complex multiagency planning. You will have the opportunity to work alongside multiagency professionals, including tertiary settings, lead health consultants, psychiatrists, specialist nursers, children’s hospices, community health services and education provisions. This also includes multiagency working as corporate parent to ensure that children in our care are supported to achieve positive outcomes and support through to adulthood. We take a strengths‑based, child‑centred approach, always focusing on what each child can do and how we can nurture their aspirations — no matter how big or small. Whilst it can be a challenging and multifaceted role, it is incredibly rewarding to share our children’s journeys and you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference to children, young people and their families.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking Social Workers and Senior Social Workers who bring:

Passion – Creative, child‑centred practitioners who genuinely care and want to help children and families achieve their aspirations.

Resilience – Dedicated individuals who can manage challenging days, make difficult decisions, and still go the extra mile for our children and young people.

Supportiveness – Strong communicators who inspire, motivate and enjoy developing others’ practice.

Forward Thinking – Practitioners who contribute ideas, embrace change, and help shape the ongoing development of our service.

Aligned Values – Supportive, innovative, respectful, dedicated and collaborative professionals who reflect our core values.

Why join us?

In return Lancashire County Council offers a range of benefits, which can be found on LCC Vacancies website.

  • Our Commitment: In Lancashire we understand the importance of the right support, a healthy work‑life balance and a manageable caseload. We are using national funding opportunities to enhance the developments in our service such as reducing caseloads, offering the best training and support, and increasing the range of services we offer to ensure our Social Workers can make a positive impact for Lancashire’s children and families.
  • Training and Development: New recruits attend our established Social Work Academy, an extensive induction programme, followed by regular recall days and training for ASYE's to support increased knowledge and confidence in practice. The Academy is run by our team of Advanced Practitioners who provide a range of support, training and development across our service to help practice to be at the highest standards.

For any questions, please do not hesitate to contact team manager, Nancy Livesey.
