We aim to keep children and families together safely through our Families 1st Strategy, based on a restorative model of practice. We utilize models such as ‘Safe and Together’, ‘Safe and Meaningful Contact’, and ‘Together or Apart’. Our team includes therapeutic life story practitioners and specialists in Scottish Child Interview Model, Kinship, and Family Group Decision Making.
Highland Council was awarded Bairns’ Hoose affiliate status in October 2023, providing trauma-informed venues for children across the Highlands, ensuring access to recovery, support, and justice. We have dedicated Children’s Rights and Participation Officers and use tools like Mind of My Own to incorporate children’s voices.
