Job description

Service: Health and Social Care Partnership

Closing Date:Wednesday 20th August 2025

We would love to welcome a qualified Social Worker to join our friendly team in working for Argyll and Bute. Let us tell you about why this could be a great move for you. You will become a respected member of the Adult Care Social Work Team here in Mid Argyll where the principle of integrated working with NHS Highland colleagues is both effective and firmly embedded. In common with your new Social Work colleagues, you will therefore fulfil a key and valued role within our multidisciplinary Community Team.

Argyll and Bute is one of Scotland's most stunning areas. As its award-winning council, we play a vital part in the day-to-day life and long-term future of our beautiful and diverse communities. Our unwavering purpose is to make Argyll and Bute the place to be, the place where people want to live, to work and do business. And we are committed to making the council the place to have a great career, by providing excellent benefits and a friendly, dynamic working culture so that each of our 5000 colleagues can deliver services that help our corner of Scotland thrive. Join us to make a difference.

You will be based within our Adult Care Social Work Team within Mid Argyll Community Hospital & Integrated Care Centre in Lochgilphead. In view of the nature of the role and of the rural setting in which we work, you will travel widely throughout Mid Argyll and beyond encompassing the principal towns and villages of Lochgilphead, Ardrishaig, Tarbert & Inveraray. You will also work with services users and their families within our more remote villages and settings within what is a highly rural but extremely attractive and scenic area. In addition to the core activities of assessment and case management, you will enjoy an opportunity to work in partnership with our Allied Health Professionals & Nurses both throughout the wider community and within our small community hospital. Our Operational Social Work Team includes an experienced Social Work Team Manager, three Social Workers and three Social Work Assistants. You will work to maintain our older and more vulnerable population at home within their local communities and neighbourhoods but will also enjoy an opportunity to work with our younger adults. Diverse work of this nature will include statutory elements including Adult Support & Protection from time-to-time.

The successful candidate will reveal a commitment to working with people in helping them to solve their problems. You will have an ability to build relationships, act quickly and calmly in difficult situations and be able to work under pressure and to deadline. You will have good interpersonal communication and an ability to liaise with assorted agencies and individuals such as health colleagues and private service providers. You will intervene to advocate on behalf of clients and carers alike when necessary and will have an understanding of the needs of our informal carers. The successful candidate will reveal an ability to work as an autonomous practitioner and will retain an ability to prioritise workload while adopting a flexible approach to working.

You must be registered as a Social Worker with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and will maintain responsibility for and uphold the relevant professional standards as prescribed by the SSSC for what is a registered role and for duties and services provided. You will also continue and maintain your education and training throughout your own career. A valid clean driving licence is highly desirable as your day-to-day work will be conducted within a remote and rural area in which alternative means of transport are limited.

Our employees make good things happen in the day-to-day life and for the longer term future of Argyll and Bute. We want you to feel valued working for us. We offer various benefits to support you, such as a competitive salary, pension scheme, generous leave entitlement, cycle to work scheme, discounts on gym memberships and leisure centres, wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities for learning and career growth. We also embrace a modern approach to work, offering a flexible first approach where possible to requests from our employees to how they work.

We care about our people and the world around us and always aim to do the right thing. From employee recognition schemes to environmental policies we have many initiatives in place to help us look after the things we all care about.
