Overview

Ackerman Pierce is currently supporting a leading local authority within Southend to recruit for a Social Worker for the Adoption Team on a permanent basis paying £39,152-£45,091 P/Annum. Our client has a well-structured and organised team that are looking to grow their staffing levels. The role offers flexible working hours and a supportive team culture with regular supervision on cases. Southend is embedding a systemic approach and is currently undergoing several changes focused on reducing caseloads and improving outcomes for families. Responsibilities
  • Provide an efficient and cost effective social work service to children, young people and their families, ensuring that the needs of the children and their parents/carers are professionally assessed.
  • Recruit, assess and support prospective adopters to ensure that the care they provide meets the needs of the individual child.
  • Gather, investigate, evaluate and analyse all necessary information on assigned cases, demonstrating clarity of assessment, reliability of information, evidenced conclusions and realistic action plans.
  • Develop practice that takes a holistic view of the individual, locating them in both their immediate and extended social circles, and considering education, social, recreational, and health needs.
  • Ensure that all case work and adoption services comply with statutory requirements, regulation and the Council\'s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure investigations, enquiries and assessments are completed to high professional standards and that each case has current Care Plans and Adoption Plans.
  • Maintain adequate case recording on Care First as directed in service procedures.
  • Liaise with and work in partnership with other agencies and organisations, collating information for prospective Adopter Reports.
  • Undertake the recruitment, assessment, training and support of prospective adopters to enable them to meet the diverse needs of children within Southend Borough Council.
  • Attend panels, conferences, reviews and court as required for each case, presenting the Council plans and opinions with professionalism and integrity.
  • Identify service enhancements and support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and submit written reports as required.
  • Represent the team, group or department on working parties and at other meetings as required.
  • Ensure the Team Manager is kept fully apprised of problems arising from workload and seek advice as necessary.
  • Provide statistics relating to own workload as required.

Minimum Requirements
  • SWE Registration
  • 1 year post qualifying experience within the UK Social Care industry

Knowledge & Experience
  • Knowledge of child protection, looked after children and associated child in need social work practice issues.
  • Knowledge of methods of social work intervention.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, guidance & policy issues.
  • Knowledge & understanding of adoption legislation. Contemporary knowledge of social work & their social work applications i.e. attachment theory, enabling change, behaviour management.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working with children and families.
  • Practice experience of applying assessment skills within a statutory social work setting.
