Bury Council has a new permanent position available for an Approved Mental Health Practitioner/Advanced EDT Practitioner within the Emergency Duty Team to work full time based in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Location: Bury, Greater Manchester

Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Main Duties as an Approved Mental Health Professional:

• Participate in the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) rota, covering a mix of shifts including evenings, overnight, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Respond to calls from local authority colleagues, external agencies, and the public, assessing and prioritising cases to determine the appropriate level of response.
• Assess and manage risk in referrals, determining the need for protection and deciding the most suitable intervention.
• Utilise available services and resources to provide emergency social work support to individuals and families until regular office hours resume.
• Liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies as needed to ensure optimal outcomes for service users.
• Maintain accurate written records of work undertaken using appropriate forms, following required administrative and monitoring procedures.
• Communicate effectively in writing with daytime colleagues and, where needed, with other agencies about work completed.
• Encourage clients to make informed decisions and participate in their immediate care plans, ensuring their views are understood and respected by service providers.
• Develop effective relationships with clients, families, and carers through clear, respectful communication, while maintaining confidentiality in line with council policies.
• Participate in meetings with clients, families, carers, and other professionals, contributing to collaborative decision-making.
• Provide emotional support to clients and carers by signposting to additional services and resources.
• Act as an appropriate adult when required.
• Approve expenditures for intervention and support packages within the delegated authority framework.
• Contribute to safeguarding children and adults by following the council’s safeguarding policies, addressing any risks of abuse or neglect, and reporting concerns through the proper channels.
• Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a seamless, person-centred service and build effective relationships with other professionals.
• Maintain up-to-date, clear, and accurate records in compliance with council policies and the HCPC’s Code of Practice.
• Prepare and present professional-standard written reports, including for court proceedings.
• Manage and prioritise personal workload effectively.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of services by sharing knowledge, skills, and experiences with colleagues and management.
• Provide information to assist with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of services as needed.
• Support emergency planning efforts as required.
• Facilitate practice placements, including AMHP training.
• Deputise for the Team Manager when necessary.
• Provide relevant data, statistics, and information as needed.
• Inform managers of service gaps or issues that impact efficient service delivery, offering suggestions for improvement.
• Lead shifts by allocating and prioritising tasks.
• Offer first-line supervision, peer support, and oversight to staff, ensuring quality control and assisting the Team Manager.
• Provide casework advice and guidance to staff for both service delivery and professional development.
• Ensure adequate rota coverage, addressing any gaps in shift scheduling as needed.

Key Requirements for this role:

• Must possess a recognised social work qualification
• Registered with Social Work England
• Previous experience of EDT working
• Strong understanding of health and social care legislation, guidance, and policy.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Competence in maintaining accurate records and using IT systems.
