Job description

The area is well served with transport links to historic Hertfordshire and its glorious countryside, as well as into London and beyond. We are looking for a Social Worker who is passionate about delivering care to adults with mental health issues.

As a Social Worker in an Adult Community Mental Health Service (ACMHS), you will provide clinical expertise and leadership; participate in the referral and allocation process; safeguard vulnerable children and adults; contribute to case discussions and service-related meetings; manage a caseload; and provide direct support and advice to Service Users (Adults of all ages) and Carers, within the recovery framework, embracing the individual right to choice and control.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. To be a champion of social care with a comprehensive understanding of legislation and statutory requirements.
  2. To take a lead in the promotion of adult safeguarding practice, undertake safeguarding enquiries, and contribute to care plans that protect both adults and children.
  3. To undertake comprehensive assessments and reviews for individuals who may present with high risk or complex social, legal, and environmental issues, ensuring assessments align with social care eligibility criteria as defined by The Care Act 2014.
  4. To offer direct support, information, and advice to service users and their carers, and to colleagues, ensuring those not meeting social care eligibility are appropriately signposted.
  5. To ensure appropriate health and social care services are commissioned, including the duty to offer direct payments, and that processes are in place for service users to be charged if applicable.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • An appropriate professional social work qualification
  • Education to degree level
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • Training in outcomes-focused assessments and personalization principles
  • Relevant post-qualifying training for social workers
  • Training and experience in Safeguarding
Desirable Criteria:
  • Approved Mental Health Professional/Best Interests Assessment Training, with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience
  • Knowledge of legislation, theory, and policy relevant to the care group
  • Experience in assessments, care planning, and personalisation
  • Understanding of personal budgets and direct payments
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and partnership working, demonstrating dignity and respect
