Job summary

Walsall Council is seeking a skilled Team Manager to lead a social work team delivering safeguarding, permanence planning and family support services. The role focuses on ensuring vulnerable children receive timely, high-quality outcomes and appropriate long-term plans.

You will provide strategic oversight, supervise staff, chair strategy discussions and work in partnership with other agencies to secure safeguarding standards and continuous improvement. DBS Enhanced disclosure will be required.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a social work team with caseloads of children in care.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding, permanence planning and statutory guidance.
• Ability to supervise staff and support performance development.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a social work team with caseloads of children in care.
• Provide management oversight and decision-making on complex cases.
• Drive permanence planning to ensure timely long-term outcomes.
• Manage caseload allocation, performance, quality assurance and statutory timescales.
• Monitor progress against care plans to ensure positive outcomes.
• Provide supervision, reflective practice and staff development.
• Chair strategy discussions and ensure effective safeguarding and risk management.
• Lead recruitment, induction and performance management of staff.
• Manage budgets and resources to ensure value for money.
• Collaborate with partner agencies for multi-agency service delivery.
• Contribute to service planning, development and continuous improvement.
