Job summary

Oldham Council is seeking a Team Manager in Safeguarding to lead frontline children's social work teams in Oldham. The role offers an attractive hourly rate and ongoing, locum engagement, with responsibilities spanning leadership, risk oversight, and complex safeguarding decisions.

You will supervise social workers and advanced practitioners, drive high-quality plans, and foster multi-agency collaboration to improve outcomes for children and families.

Qualifications

  • Degree in social work with current registration to Social Work England.
  • Significant experience in Children’s Services, especially in managerial roles such as Team Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and management to social workers, advanced practitioners, and support staff.
  • Ensure robust management oversight and effective risk management processes are in place.
  • Lead complex safeguarding decisions and statutory interventions with clarity and confidence.
  • Drive high-quality assessments, plans, and interventions that enhance outcomes for children and families.
  • Chair strategy discussions and professional meetings, ensuring collaborative decision-making.
  • Oversee Child Protection, Child in Need, and Children Looked After processes.
  • Support social workers through reflective supervision, promoting their professional growth.
  • Foster excellent partnership working across multi-agency networks.
  • Monitor team performance and ensure compliance with quality assurance and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives and continuous improvement programs.

About You:

We seek a social work leader who not only has the experience to manage but can also inspire and drive their team towards bettering children's futures. You will have a degree or equivalent in social work with a current registration with Social Work England. Significant experience in Children's Services, especially in managerial roles such as Team Manager, is essential to your success in this role.
