Job description

Applications are invited from suitably committed and experienced senior Social Workers to join the Children in Care Team as Deputy Team Manager on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

The salary range for this post is £66,990 up to £75,458, depending on experience. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will:

  1. Assist and provide effective leadership and supervision to the Children in Care (CIC) Team and Leaving Care Services.
  2. Assist in managing the effective provision of social work services provided by the CIC Team and Leaving Care service.
  3. Ensure the core functions of the team operate to a high standard and are effective in safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people, in line with the Corporate Parenting Strategy and the Children and Young People’s Plan.
  4. Develop and sustain resources while maintaining morale, flexibility, and quality of service.
  5. Deputise for the Team Manager in their absence.

The Children in Need Team is responsible for undertaking assessments of children and families, developing intervention plans for children in need, and supporting children, young people, and their families to achieve positive outcomes, including those children subject to Care Requirements, in accordance with the Children (Guernsey and Alderney) Law 2008. The Law has introduced significant changes to how concerns relating to children and young people are addressed, based broadly on the Children’s Hearing System in Scotland.

The island of Guernsey, with a population of 65,000, boasts some of Britain's finest beaches, a mild and sunny climate, and a historic harbour town in St. Peter's Port, the island's capital.

The States of Guernsey provides a diverse range of care; their Social Work service offers an excellent Children and Families Service, supported by highly qualified Social Workers.

Person requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with current full UK statutory registration.
  • At least five years post-registration UK experience in Children and Families statutory settings.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, best practice guidance, regulations, National Minimum Standards, and policies related to Children in Care and Leaving Care services.
  • Supervisory or Management experience, including deputising for Management in their absence.
  • Possession of a clean and current car driving licence; own vehicle required (mileage expensed at full rate).
