Job summary

Brighton and Hove City Council is seeking a Social Work Assistant in Adult Social Care for the Enhanced Support Team. You will carry out Care Act assessments and support social workers on more complex cases, helping to promote safety and independence.

You will work with vulnerable adults facing challenges such as homelessness, mental health needs, substance use, domestic abuse, and involvement with the criminal justice system, in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Job description

A Social Work Assistant post in Adult Social Care at Brighton and Hove City Council, based in the Enhanced Support Team. The role carries out Care Act assessments and supports social workers on more complex cases. The team works with adults facing overlapping problems such as homelessness, mental health difficulties, substance use, domestic abuse and criminal justice contact. A DBS check applies and the post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

What the job involves

• Completing assessments under the Care Act
• Assisting social workers with more complex situations
• Ensuring timely assessment and practical support to promote people's safety and independence
• Working directly with people who may need care and support, and their carers
• Leading practice, supporting staff and ensuring delivery of high-quality, safe and effective services in the Enhanced Support Team
• Working alongside social workers and other staff in a multidisciplinary setting

Experience

• Experience of working with vulnerable people who may use social care services
• Experience of applying law and policy relevant to the care of adults

Skills & knowledge

• Identifying and assessing risk of harm, including under adult safeguarding legislation
• Understanding of information, advice and re-ablement in supporting independence and wellbeing
