Job summary

Greater Anglia is offering a Social Value & Safeguarding Apprentice within the Safety, Security and Sustainability team. You will gain hands-on experience in community engagement, sustainability, social impact, and corporate responsibility.

This 2-year apprenticeship requires 37 hours per week, with initial in-office time and a hybrid work pattern, while studying the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner (Level 4) through Colchester Institute.

Qualifications

  • GCSE maths and English at required grades.
  • Eligible for apprenticeship with Colchester Institute training provider.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects and campaigns that contribute to our Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability strategy
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues across the business to encourage engagement with social value initiatives
  • Work with charities, community groups, and industry partners to create meaningful social and environmental impact
  • Help promote campaigns and share success stories through internal communications
  • Assist with collecting, analysing, and reporting social value and sustainability data
  • Support the delivery and tracking of social value commitments, targets, and KPIs
  • Help organise community events, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to social value initiatives
  • Produce reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Keep abreast of developments to ensure the business is aware of current and future opportunities and challenges in relation to social & environmental issues
  • Representing the business at events, conferences, and community engagement activities
  • Support safeguarding campaigns, reward and recognition schemes, and community-focused projects when required

Job description

We're looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Social Value & Safeguarding Apprentice to join our Safety, Security and Sustainability team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience while developing valuable professional skills in community engagement, sustainability, social impact, and corporate responsibility.

Training course Corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioner (level 4)

Hours Monday to Friday, 9am- 5pm, with a 30-minute lunch break each day.Agile working, a mix of office/work from home. However, to start with, more in-office time to settle into the role, with an opportunity to work at offices across the network.

  • Select and implement project management and planning tools applicable to the type of project/ campaign lifecycle.
  • Assess the effectiveness of change and identify opportunities to improve outcomes, guiding and supporting others to deliver results.
  • Balance own CR&S workload to prioritise competing demands and achieve key performance indicators.
  • Utilise strengths of internal organisational structures to help build self-sustaining CR&S populations.
  • Tailor approach to maintaining new/existing external stakeholder relationships to achieve progress on plans (e.g objectives, key initiatives and shared interests).
  • Contribute to the negotiation of external CR&S projects of mutual benefit.
  • Adopt a communication method that takes account of the audience and is suitable for the circumstances.
  • Recommend opportunities for external engagement, articulating the mutual benefits and risks.
  • Contribute to written reports on CR&S performance in line with organisational requirements.
  • Contribute to the drafting of the CR&S strategy.
  • Adjust leadership style to achieve results, having regard to the needs of the individual/teams involved.
  • Select data that is relevant to the CR&S issue being considered.

Requirements

GCSE in:

maths and English (grade 9-4/A*-C)

students who have studies subjects in:

psychology, sociology, English or media (grade 9-4/A*-C)

  • This role is exciting as it will involve travel across the network, getting involved in a variety of events and projects. An apprentice will learn from the industry experts and get an insight into the railway as a whole
