Job description

We're looking for a Social Sustainability Team to join our Group Services Team. The social sustainability manager will lead on delivery of the social sustainability elements of the Building for a Sustainable World framework

Location: Flexible on Location - Hybrid working available, with travel to the office and sites as required

Hours: 37.5 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

What will you be responsible for?

As a Social Sustainability Manager, you'll be working within the Group Services Team, supporting them in the delivery of Social Sustainability within Kier Group.

Your day to day will include:

  • To actively engage and influence the business streams ensuring they understand and are up to date with best practice in social sustainability and remain on course to achieve their targets. Work with them to take necessary actions when they are not.
  • Liaise with industry bodies, NGOs and relevant indices, to ensure we remain compliant with all necessary legislation and regulation and stay up to date with best practice, legislation changes etc.
  • Help to influence and advise business leaders on the social sustainability strategy and plans
  • Work closely with the wider HR function and the Kier Foundation to ensure there is alignment, collaboration, and synergy in approach to social sustainability
  • Work with the business streams to deliver the social elements of Kier's Building for a Sustainable World framework and proactively supporting the group in all aspects of social sustainability.
What are we looking for?

This role of Social Sustainability Manager is great for you if you have:

  • Demonstrable experience in managing a sustainability programme with a strong social element and corporate responsibility focus
  • Be able to demonstrate commercial awareness and being an ambassador for the brand
  • Experience in budget management and demonstrating tangible ROI
  • Experience in drafting new policies and processes for a broad Sustainability programme as well as individual elements therein. To include Business Ethics, Human Rights, ESG, procurement of materials and subcontractors, etc.
  • Be able to forge relationships and work across the services that support a large and complex organisation such as Kier
  • Be able to evidence working closely with external agencies and independent auditors to verify and/or assure the data required for professional social sustainability reporting, such as Business in The Community (BITC) or similar
  • Demonstrate experience in managing and reporting on diverse data streams, including people and communities, environment, marketplace and governance
  • Has experience of using a social value calculator, preferably Thrive, and is confident with social value reporting.
  • Preferably a professional member of IEMA, ICRS or similar
