BAM UK & I are seeking a Social Sustainability Business Partner. In this role, you will report to the Social Sustainability Director and be a key member of the UK & Ireland (UK&I) Social Sustainability Senior Leadership team (SLT), serving as one of three Business Partners. Your primary responsibility will be to support the UK&I Division in its quest to become the most socially conscious contractor and achieve a minimum of 35% social value against revenue by the end of 2026.

Your mission

As a strategic partner with the operational business, you will lead a team of Social Sustainability managers and coordinators located in Southern England and Southern Wales. This role will provide leadership, direction, and specialized social sustainability knowledge to fulfill BAM’s social sustainability commitments. As part of the Social Sustainability senior leadership team, you will influence BAM UK&I's strategic development, performance processes, and systems, as well as guide a progressive approach to work winning, research, and thought leadership.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead delivery of the ‘social’ element of BAM UK&I’s sustainability strategy, deploying a roadmap to 35% Social Value against revenue by end of 2026.
  2. Lead and manage a team of social sustainability specialists, coordinate and manage staff resource allocation ensuring effective delivery of contractual commitments.
  3. Be the primary contact for business segments seeking specialist Social Sustainability knowledge and support.
  4. Build trusting relationships, effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams (D&I, L&D, Procurement, Operations) to ensure alignment, identify new opportunities, and reduce duplication of effort.
  5. Guide, advise, and influence key clients, government, and industry stakeholders.
  6. Support strategic work winning and tender activities, bringing innovative ideas and approaches that will be a key differentiator for BAM.
  7. Embed social sustainability principles and maximize social value opportunities in our supply chain.
  8. Drive cultural change and influence stakeholders across the business.
  9. Guide, advise, and influence key clients, government entities, and industry stakeholders, and contribute to thought leadership.
  10. Improve efficiency through standardization of processes and continued development of accessible shared resources.
  11. Identify and develop national programmes aligned with BAM’s key themes of Social Inclusion, Social Mobility, and the Foundational Economy.
  12. Manage and coordinate work with external partners.
  13. Develop training and materials to enhance the knowledge of Social Sustainability managers, coordinators, champions, and the wider workforce, ensuring high understanding of social value and impact.
  14. Monitor business performance in Social Sustainability and produce regular reports and presentations for management teams.
  15. Coordinate industry insights, development, policy, and legislation to ensure BAM stays ahead of industry trends.
  16. Work with BAM’s marketing and communication teams to coordinate internal and external communication of social sustainability activities.
Who are we looking for?

• Significant experience in social sustainability, social value, social impact, and/or community development roles within organizations (private and/or public sector).

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to develop strong, positive relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.

• Experience in managing teams within a matrix organization.

• Ability to implement and execute strategy across multiple business segments to drive change.

• Experience working with and influencing senior stakeholders, including private and public sector clients.

• Demonstrable commercial awareness.

• High understanding of current and future social sustainability landscape, including government strategies and policies.

• Extensive knowledge of social value and impact measurement models, methodology, and embedding frameworks, including digital reporting and working with TOMs.

• Experience in successful bidding and work-winning environments.

• High energy, self-motivation, analytical skills, and solution development abilities.

• Enthusiasm and ability to motivate colleagues.

• Possession of a relevant degree qualification.
