Job summary

Disability North is looking for an experienced personal assistant to support a lively 6-year-old boy with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder in West Denton, Newcastle upon Tyne. The role requires supervision, fitness, and a proactive approach to engaging him in community activities.

The successful candidate must have a full, clean UK driving licence and be able to plan trips in advance, with a focus on safety and routine.

• Experience as personal assistant to individuals with neurodiversity.
• Ability to be physically active and maintain good fitness to support a lively child.
• Full clean UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Support Joey in accessing the local community and accompany him to activities.
• Ensure Joey's safety at all times and use coping strategies during dysregulation.
• Learn and prompt toilet facility use as needed; assist with eating and drinking choices.
• Plan and explain trips in advance; arrange and communicate routine and activities.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced personal assistant for a lively 6-year-old boy with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder, this role requires an experienced individual with a background in supporting individuals with neurodiversity.

Joey always needs full supervision and requires someone with a good level of fitness to keep up with him, as he is a ball of energy. Joey is a happy, energetic young man who enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including, soft play, and trips where he can see trains and ships, he would like to visit and explore new venues to widen his experiences within the community and to work towards swimming pool trips. Joey can on occasion become dysregulated so coping strategies to manage these must be demonstrated and implemented to ensure his safety.

The main tasks within this role will include supporting Joey in accessing the local community, accompanying and supporting him to his chosen activities and always ensuring his safety. There are no personal care or toileting needs in this role however Joey will need prompts to utilised toilet facilities he is independent in eating and drinking but has a very select food choice which you would be required to learn. He enjoys anything dinosaurs or Godzilla and loves to watch shopping haul programmes, so if dinosaurs and ship sightseeing is your thing Joey would love to hear from you.

We are looking for a car driver with a full clean UK driving licence and planned trips must be explained to Joey before any activities take place, as routine and planning are key to his regulation.
