Job description

The New Statesman is looking for a talented, enthusiastic and efficient social media producer to help grow our podcasts and video audiences.

This is a dynamic and varied role for someone who is passionate about current affairs, brimming with ideas, and excited to help shape industry-leading audio-visual content. Working across our political and cultural podcasts and videos, you’ll play a key role in supporting the growth of our shows through social media promotion, marketing and platform-optimised distribution.

You will be responsible for growing our podcast and video audience by making and publishing creative social media assets, video trailers, and adverts - as well as editorial social-first video.

You will take a proactive approach to marketing our podcast and video content using owned, earned, paid and bartered opportunities, including activating collaborations and promo swaps, writing and sending press releases and communicating across our teams to ensure cross-promotion on all our platforms.

You’ll help to manage the publishing of podcast and video content on YouTube, social and podcast platforms, optimising for maximum reach and engagement using platform-specific best practices.

In addition, you will assist in the planning and production of podcasts and videos - including editing videos for YouTube. You’ll support the audiovisual team to deliver high-quality content that serve a politically engaged and curious audience.

About you:

You are a creative designer, able to turn high quality and well-designed assets around quickly.

You have experience in live action video, motion graphics and graphic design.

You’ve grown video and podcast audiences on multiple different social media platforms. You understand the algorithms and idiosyncrasies of each platform - especially YouTube - and you know how to produce content that will maximise audience reach and engagement.

You’re familiar with the challenges of growing a podcast listenership and have evidence that you know how to overcome them.

You have training or experience as a journalist and demonstrate excellent editorial judgement, with a strong interest in UK politics and current affairs and a keen awareness of the news agenda.

You’ll bring a mix of the following:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience writing scripts, briefs, outreach/marketing materials and digital copy
  • Skilled user of Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Audition, Premiere and Photoshop
  • Experience recording, editing and publishing audio
  • Strong understanding of the podcast industry and ecosystem
  • Good understanding of the New Statesman’s output and place in the political and media landscape
  • Working knowledge of UK media law

Company benefits:

  • 25 days' holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • Additional days off for your birthday, health and well-being day and volunteering day
  • Subscription to NS publications and all other online content
  • Access to a discounted shopping program
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Enhanced company sick pay after probation

Note, this role offers hybrid working, working from home one day per week.

To apply, please send your CV and a short cover letter to Rob Le Mare, via rob.lemare@newstatesman.co.uk. Applications close on Monday, 23 June 2025.
