Location: This is a London-based role.
Salary: £41,896 - £62,846depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Social Media Manager who shares our love of Radio 1, pop culture, music, celebrity and film to join a creative team using short form video to help audiences discover live radio, music performances and our podcasts. This is a new role dedicated to creating new social first video formats, producing entertaining shoots and edit thumbstopping content for social media and YouTube - all for a 16-24 year old audience. This role sits in the BBC Radio central social media team that runs accounts, commissions video, visualised radio moments, and edits and optimises content for channels that reach millions every week.

Main Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule and devise a regular cadence of social first formats for Radio 1’s social channels targeted at a 16-24 year old audience.
  • Produce film shoots and edit thumb stopping content for social media and YouTube.
  • Ensure that content is syndicated across other BBC channels to maximise impact.
  • Regular collaboration with the Radio 1 social media, commissioning, visual radio and music teams.
  • Write regular reports and insights sharing impact of the project with stakeholders
  • Ensure that your output adheres to BBC guidelines and that the teams and suppliers you work with understand their responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

You will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Live and breathe pop culture and the content that 16-24 audiences are consuming.
  • A thorough knowledge of how social video platforms work, and how users discover music and audio in these spaces.
    Be comfortable working with high profile talent, have great attention to detail.
  • A track record at creating campaigns and formats that engage with younger audiences. We will ask you to share links and examples as part of your application.
  • Have strong experience of working as a social media manager, ideating engaging video formats and directing shoots with talent or equivalent in a similar environment.
  • Strong quality video and image editing skills – must be able to work within the Adobe Creative Suite and be able to devise or commission social formats for platforms such as TikTok or Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and how to use them to inform content decisions and choices.
  • Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills, coupled with the ability to establish credibility and maintain effective working relationships with senior contacts both internal and external to the BBC.
