PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £47,000 - £52,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We’re looking for a creative and experienced Social Media Manager to help shape the online presence of BBC Radio 1. You’ll lead the charge in bringing our radio moments to life through engaging short-form video and social content, helping young audiences discover the best of our live radio, music, and podcasts.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
- Plan, schedule, and curate engaging content across Radio 1’s social media channels.
- Lead and support major social campaigns, responding to trends and creating shareable, social-first formats.
- Manage the day-to-day tasks of the Radio 1 social media team and coordinate with internal and external suppliers.
- Amplify key radio moments weekly, ensuring content reaches beyond owned channels for maximum impact.
- Produce authentic, relatable content that brings our audio output to life for young audiences.
- Ensure all content complies with BBC and Ofcom policies, and support teams and suppliers in meeting these standards.
- Collaborate with other music social media managers, editors, and marketing leads to deliver cohesive content strategies.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Deep understanding of BBC Radio 1, its audience, and the music it champions.
- Strong knowledge of social video platforms and how young users discover music and audio content.
- Proven experience in creating campaigns that resonate with youth audiences—examples will be requested.
- Significant experience as a Social Media Manager or content lead in a creative industry.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with strong video and image editing skills, especially for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
Desired But Not Required
- Experience working on large-scale music events or podcast launches.
- Familiarity with BBC editorial and compliance standards.
- Knowledge of social media analytics and how to apply insights to content strategy.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across teams.
- Experience commissioning content from external creators or agencies.
