Overall Purpose of the Role

The Cross Company Social Media Manager (Disney UK) leads the strategy, growth, and daily operations of Disney UK’s brand social media accounts—Disney UK, Disney Club UK, and Disney Family UK—across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, and TikTok.

This role sets KPIs, manages external agencies, and supports UK social teams with insights and best practices. It requires strong knowledge of paid and organic social, emerging trends, and platform innovations, while promoting a test-and-learn mindset.

The Social Media Manager collaborates across departments to deliver engaging, audience-led campaigns that support business goals, ensure brand and legal compliance, and drive fan engagement and loyalty. They also oversee the social media budget and ‘always on’ media strategy.

Additionally, the role includes mentoring a Social Media Supervisor and intern, fostering growth and development within the team.

Areas of Responsibility

The Social Media Manager UK will be the point person to ensure successful running of all social platforms across UK and the primary responsibilities of the role are:

  • Set and deliver innovative social campaigns and strategies that encourage follower acquisition and retention to deliver a high-affinity audience primed to receive TWDC marketing messages
  • Plan and oversee the local implementation of social strategies driving XLOB and broader business objectives in a collaborative manner ensuring UK requirements are met
  • Produce bespoke content to support local LOB and Franchise priorities and objectives across the business
  • Integrate and align social opportunities across the business (e.g., DCP, Franchise, Studios, TV Networks, Disney+, Disney Tickets, Parks, Cruises etc.) that deepen audience engagement with TWDC and ultimately meet (and exceed) required business objectives, KPIs and ROI – leveraging digital partnership & monetisation opportunities wherever possible
  • Grow and maintain local UK Disney brand and audience pages; delivering audience-first, best in class social strategy that fulfils key business objectives
  • Overseeing community moderation and engagement. This includes overseeing the community moderation team and approving responses, as well as identifying exciting new ways to attract, retain and engage fans.
  • Evaluating account and content performance; and applying learnings and insights to inform future activations and campaigns
  • Managing retained social agencies to ensure they are delivering the highest quality service; ensuring processes are streamlined and efficient; and that they are delivering on team requirements and objectives
  • Working collaboratively with Studios and Disney+ social leads on audience-led campaigns to deliver maximum reach and relevancy.
  • Planning and briefing in ‘always-on’ paid media on Facebook and Instagram, with the ability to react and optimise media spend, as required
  • Provide consultancy and support for UK TWDC social media leads, both locally and regionally, including the sharing of insights
  • Chair monthly meetings between UK social leads, to better manage communication between teams across TWDC and identify synergy opportunities
  • Develop performance reports for distribution to regional and local stakeholders on all cross-company projects and initiatives; formulate frameworks for standardized benchmarking and contextualise results within local market landscape.
  • Working closely with Legal to ensure all activations and social activity meets required guidelines; and to stay atop of latest policies
  • Build relationships with platform partners to keep updated on platform developments and new initiatives
  • Oversee agency relationships and content briefs

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5+ years’ work experience in social media marketing departments (client and/or agency)
  • Interested in all aspects of digital (products, platforms, search, technology, etc)
  • Ability to read your audience, adapt quickly, manage stakeholder needs across a complex matrix organisation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Diplomatic and tactful
  • Resourceful and pro-active – resolve conflict & looks for solutions and information in creative ways
  • Motivational, inspirational, team player
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Adaptable and flexible (with working hours, travel, getting things done) – a problem solver
