Job summary

McGill University’s Faculty of Education seeks a creative student for a Work Study position to tell our community stories across social channels. Under supervision, you will craft content, edit visuals, and publish posts across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube, building a portfolio in a university environment.

You will manage deadlines, support website edits, capture photos/videos, and monitor channels for quality, safety, and alignment with branding.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of current social media usage, platforms, formats, trends, and online culture.
  • Proven experience with organization accounts on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Buffer, and other relevant channels.
  • Creativity and a strong instinct for what makes social content engaging.
  • Experience creating social media content, including basic graphic design, copywriting, and video editing.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and experience with photography and video production are required.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Strong proofreading and quality-control skills, with excellent attention to accuracy, consistency, word count, formatting, and visual quality.
  • Sound judgment and awareness of social media risks, including identifying/h elevating hate speech, misinformation, trolling, and other harmful content.
  • Strong understanding of social media, branding, and visual identity standards.
  • Ability to ensure content is consistent with Faculty and University safety policy and guidelines.
  • Self-starter who can work independently while taking direction and feedback.
  • High-level proficiency in written French, including grammar.

Responsibilities

  • Create and publish engaging social media content, including written copy, basic graphic design, Reels, Stories, and other short-form video content under supervision.
  • Help tell the stories of Faculty of Education students, faculty members, researchers, programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Monitor student and/or community-led social media takeovers, planning and reviewing their work.
  • Identify opportunities to highlight student voices and the student experience.
  • Assist with content coordination, scheduling and publishing through platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Buffer.
  • Monitor the Faculty’s social media channels and identify relevant content to share or amplify.
  • Help grow and engage the Faculty’s audiences through thoughtful, goal-oriented content.
  • Monitor comments and direct messages and route inquiries to appropriate Faculty webpages or staff.
  • Monitor social media platforms for trolling, hate speech, misinformation, and other harmful content.
  • Escalate content not compliant with equity, safety and policies to supervisor.
  • Ensure consistency with visual identity, tone, quality standards, and guidelines.
  • Apply proofreading and quality-control skills, including grammar and formatting.
  • Assist with Faculty website edits and updates.
  • Capture and edit photos and short videos for social media.
  • Keep up with current social media formats, trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Provide platform-based analytics and reports.
  • Ensure content is accurate and consistent with branding and messaging.
  • Other related communications tasks as required.
