Social Investment Manager

Location: Hybrid working, with office presence required (Prescot, Merseyside)

Reports to: Head of Foundation

Working Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

A leading UK-based foundation, part of a well-established and respected organisation in the social impact and ESG space, is seeking a Social Investment Manager to join its growing team. This foundation focuses on deploying capital into funds providing debt and/or equity solutions that drive measurable social outcomes across the UK and beyond.

This is a rare opportunity to join a mission-driven team at a pivotal time, with the remit to help shape and deliver a dynamic social investment strategy, while contributing to meaningful, sustainable change.

The Role

As Social Investment Manager, you will lead the day-to-day management of the foundation’s social investment portfolio, ensuring it delivers both strong social impact and financial returns. You will work closely with senior leadership to identify investment opportunities, oversee due diligence, and monitor portfolio performance.

Your work will play a vital role in scaling the foundation’s investment activities—identifying opportunities, managing relationships with fund managers, and representing the foundation in key social finance networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow the foundation’s portfolio of social investments
  • Ensure alignment with strategic priorities and social impact goals
  • Present investment proposals to senior stakeholders and investment committees
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulations, and emerging opportunities

Opportunity Assessment & Due Diligence

  • Identify and evaluate fund-level investments (debt/equity) in line with ESG and social impact criteria
  • Oversee due diligence including financial analysis, impact evaluation, and risk assessment
  • Maintain close working relationships with fund managers to support governance, sustainability, and impact measurement

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track portfolio performance, providing regular impact and financial reports to internal stakeholders
  • Continuously assess outcomes against KPIs to ensure objectives are met

Stakeholder Engagement & Sector Leadership

  • Develop and manage relationships with fund managers, co-investors, and social investment networks
  • Represent the foundation at industry events, fostering collaborations and identifying new pipeline opportunities

Person Specification

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience in social investment, impact investing, or fund management
  • Strong analytical capabilities, with experience in due diligence, impact evaluation, and risk assessment
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—comfortable reporting to senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence diverse partners
  • Passion for social change, with a clear understanding of impact measurement frameworks

Desirable Qualifications & Attributes

  • Professional or academic background in finance, economics, or a related field (e.g. CFA, ACA)
  • Knowledge of ESG and responsible investment principles
  • Experience in fund structuring and governance
  • A strategic, proactive, and values-driven mindset
