The Team:

The Central Sustainability Office (CSO) of M&G plc works closely with asset management, asset owner, and corporate sustainability teams to deliver targeted sustainability outcomes for the Group. This role reports to the Group Head of Sustainability Strategy and supports the implementation of thematic aspects of the Group Sustainability Strategy. It is an opportunity to bring your social sustainability skills into M&G, where you will play a key role in delivering our Group Sustainability Strategy.

The Role:

The Sustainability Analyst will focus on the Resilient Societies pillar of our Group Sustainability Strategy, helping identify and enable actions across areas such as promoting Financial Confidence, Building Resilient Communities (e.g., affordable housing and regional development), and addressing social impacts of climate change and transition to net zero.

The analyst will conduct research, synthesize findings, and provide guidance on regulatory trends, industry initiatives, and best practices related to sustainability. They will develop research papers, position statements, and topic briefs, and support knowledge-sharing webinars. The role includes administrative tasks related to chairing group-wide working groups and committees. This is a unique opportunity for an aspiring sustainability professional to support M&G in achieving its sustainability goals and to work closely with senior experts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and summarize research on social themes, including frameworks, trends, regulation, and industry initiatives related to financial services.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and input into key initiatives, drawing on data-driven insights and industry knowledge.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop initiatives advancing the Resilient Societies pillar.
  • Support the development of organizational capabilities in societal impact areas through knowledge sharing.
  • Translate external regulatory and voluntary requirements and assess their impact on the business.
  • Identify collaborative opportunities and engage with industry initiatives, NGOs, think tanks, research institutions, and policymakers.
  • Create content to showcase thought leadership on relevant topics.
  • Assist in chairing working groups and committees, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking actions.
  • Contribute to a high-performing, innovative team focused on effectiveness and agility.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience in sustainability, preferably within a financial institution.
  • Technical knowledge of social sustainability topics like financial inclusion, community resilience, affordable housing, and climate change impacts.
  • Understanding of financial services industry initiatives and regulations (e.g., SFDR, SDR, CSRD, CSDDD) in the UK and EU.
  • Strong research, idea generation, synthesis, and writing skills.
  • Good project management skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Organized with high attention to detail and proficiency in Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A relevant degree is advantageous.
