Job description

Job Description

Role: Social Care Worker (Justice Services, Diversion from Prosecution Team)

Location: GCHSCP, 80 Norfolk Street, G5 9EJ

Hours and Shift Pattern: 35 hours, within an 8am - 8pm framework, Monday to Friday

Contract Status: Permanent

About the Role

Are you interested in working for the largest local authority in Scotland, in partnership with the NHS, to help improve the health and wellbeing of our community? Then, you are in the right place!

The Diversion from Prosecution (DfP) process involves the Procurator Fiscal (PF) referring individuals to their Local Authority to address underlying causes of alleged offending behavior, as an alternative to court proceedings.

DfP aims to deliver effective, prompt interventions that promote rehabilitation, prevent further offending, and reassure victims and the public. Benefits include supporting individuals with issues contributing to offending, early intervention to reduce reoffending, swift resolution, and avoiding criminal convictions that could impact life chances.

Responsibilities

  • Assess individuals referred by the Procurator Fiscal, gathering information from electronic case management systems and liaising with social work, health teams, and third sector colleagues.
  • Interview individuals to assess their understanding of the referral, views of the alleged offence, willingness to participate in diversion, and underlying needs.
  • Provide diversion interventions such as advice, guidance, signposting, referrals to services (e.g., addictions, mental health), or direct work to address needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme (costs to be covered by the candidate).

Additional Information

These roles are exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
Interviews are expected to take place in May 2025.
