We are keen to employ a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly from groups currently under-represented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities or from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

West Lothian Council is committed to far-reaching changes in the way we deliver our Education Services. These changes include providing the support and environment that you need to excel in your job and develop your abilities. Our dedication is demonstrated by the whole council's achievement of the Investors in People Standard, always aiming higher in our service delivery and improvements.

As a Social Care Support Worker, you will work as part of a team on a rota basis (including weekends). We currently have a 35-hour post within our Whitdale Care Home in Whitburn.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Contributing to the care planning process for residents in consultation with other staff.
  2. Ensuring that care practice is non-discriminatory and that residents' personal beliefs and preferences are appropriately acknowledged.
  3. Being aware of and responsible for the needs of older people with mental health problems, e.g., dementia.
  4. Providing for the personal care, support, and emotional needs of older people requiring residential care.
  5. Delivering a service compatible with professional social work practice and within the policies, procedures, and standards set by the service.

It is desirable that you possess an SVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent; however, you can be working towards this or be willing to work towards it. You should have experience working with older people, preferably in a care home setting.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from the commencement date of this post to become registered with the SSSC. If you are already registered with SSSC, you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account.

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
