We are keen to employ a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly from groups currently under-represented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities, or from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

West Lothian Council is committed to far-reaching changes in the way we deliver our Education Services. These changes include providing you with the support and environment you need to excel in your job and develop your abilities. Our dedication is demonstrated by the council's achievement of the Investors in People Standard and our continuous aim for improvement.

Whitdale Care Home provides care and support for frail older people and those with dementia. We are looking for individuals interested in working with older people in this environment.

As a Social Care Practitioner, you will work as part of a team on a rota basis (including weekends). We currently have a 35-hour post within our Whitdale Care Home in Whitburn.

You will take the lead in the care planning process for residents in consultation with other staff. Your responsibilities will include writing review reports and attending multi-disciplinary reviews for residents.

You will administer medication to residents and be responsible for all aspects of ordering and storing the medication.

You will ensure that care practices are non-discriminatory and that residents' personal beliefs and preferences are appropriately acknowledged.

You should be aware of and responsive to the needs of older people with mental health problems, such as dementia.

You will provide for the personal care, support, and emotional needs of older people requiring residential care.

You will deliver a service compatible with professional social work practice and within the policies, procedures, and standards set by the service.

It is desirable that you possess an SVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent; however, you can be working towards this or be willing to work towards it. You should have experience working with older people, preferably in a care home setting.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement to become registered with the SSSC. The SSSC stipulates that you must submit your application within three months of your start date. If you are already registered with the SSSC, you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account.

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.

Having a criminal conviction does not necessarily bar you from gaining employment with West Lothian Council. To view Disclosure Scotland’s Code of Practice, visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk.
