Job summary

The SO3 J1/J8 role works for the J1 Department within DSEME (Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering ensuring that. The J1 Department is responsible for the following:

The HQ DSEME J1 department provides the management and control of pay and allowances, military personnel documentation, Travel and Movements, Public and Non-public funds, Resettlement and Discharge, vetting and Data Protection, PAPMIS, WISMIS and MS. The department provides first line advice and guidance to the Chain of Command (CoC) and assures the financial integrity of administration of funds in accordance with Service Funds Regulations and Civil Statutory Law.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

  • SO3 J1/J8 is responsible to the CoC (Chain of Command) for the J1/J8 functions within the Garrison and ensures the correct management and administration of Public and Non Public funds by way of continual audit. SO3 J1J8 is to:
  • Carry out the duties of Imprest Checking Officer.
  • Carry out the duties of Internal Auditor for Public and Non Public Funds and JPA I-Expense Claims.
  • Advise the Comdt and Garrison Units on the management of all Public and Non Public Funds.
  • SO3 J1/J8 is also responsible for the compilation and coordination of the CNO/CVO Register (Casualty Notifying Officer and Casualty Visiting Officer). This register encompasses personnel from DSEME, 21 Signal Regiment, 9 Supply Regiment and 5 Battalion REME.
  • Responsible for the coordination of all CNO/CVO (Casualty Notifying Officer/Casualty Visiting Officer) training via Headquarters South West.
  • Responsible for ensuring the smooth handover/takeover of CNO/CVO duties.
  • SO3 J1/J8 is also responsible for the checking of Crypto under the guidance of 8 Training Battalion REME.

Person specification

The successful candidate will have an understanding of audits and accountancy and will be able to work with minimum supervision and they will be willing to attend the requisite training courses at Worthy Down.

Desirable qualifications for the role are:

All Arms Basic Bookkeeper, Regimental Accountant and Imprest Operator Certificates. Financial Skills Certificate – Foundation.
