Job description

A long term, inside IR35 opportunity exists for a Senior Engineer/ Section Engineer with specific experience related to the management and coordinating of buried services/utilities for a tier one principal contractor on a large project with many services.

This post suits a dedicated Engineer solely committed to the management of services and permits on a large multi-services project.

Key Responsibilities include -

  • To develop, manage and implement processes for the detection and protection of all services.
  • To ensure these works are undertaken safely and to prevent any possible delay to the main construction programme.
  • To identify solutions and to work with Designers to finalise the designs
  • To liaise with service providers to obtain relevant and updated information
  • To update the files if a new service is detected
  • Manage the early contractor involvement.
  • To issue permits-to-dig and maintain records of permits issued
  • To ensure that all service positions are physically marked out using AutoCAD.
  • To ensure all staff and subcontractors are briefed and aware of relevant services
  • To contribute to the development of WPP s and Task Briefs.
  • To supply input into producing the budget and the pricing work packages,
  • To ensure that there is an accurate understanding of all service information at all stages of construction.
  • To work with other disciplines to assist in developing the scope of temporary, civils, M&E needed to facilitate the delivery to the programme of the main civils works.
  • To collaborate with permanent and TW, civils and M&E Designers, sub-contractors, CRE, TOC, Utility suppliers, M&E Manager and the civils delivery team.


Requirements for this opportunity include -
  • Preferably a civil engineering qualification and having progressed through the civil engineering route as a Site Engineer issuing permits.
  • Must demonstrate extensive experience managing the full cycle of a multi-utilities package.
  • Experience in a similar position for a tier one contractor of a large project, preferably within the rail sector.
  • Proficient in interacting with staff and subcontractors.
  • Meticulous, firm, a bit strict and willing to take ownership of the package.
  • Competent in the use of CAD
  • Proficient in PAS128
  • A CAT&Genny or similar approved user
  • CSCS, SMSTS/SSTS, First Aid
  • PTS (or be prepared to obtain)
