Job description

Snr Clinical Fellow-Vascular, Bariatric, Trauma & Regional Anaesthesia

To provide high quality trauma and emergency anaesthesia within a one-to-one consultant supervised environment initially, and then go on to manage cases within the major trauma centre with indirect supervision.

Regional

The post will be available as a full time (described below) or part time post. Job plan of a part-time post will be by agreement with the Supervisor of the Post.

The post holder will undertake regular regional anaesthesia days and the post holder will also attend acute pain rounds. The post holder will take part in the senior registrar on call rota alongside the other clinical fellows and ST 6-7's at their respective clinical sites. Currently this rota is 1:8.

Main duties of the job

REGIONAL;

Clinical experience

ICHCT is shifting focus and practice to ambulatory surgery. It is a unique setup, where surgical procedures are done on a day surgery basis. The surgical services provide comprehensive care specializing in ambulatory surgery in the areas of:

Oncology (specialising in cancers including breast, head and neck and thyroid cancer)

Plastic surgery

Urology surgery

Orthopaedic surgery

Regional Anaesthesia services are expanding significantly to facilitate the performance of several surgeries on a day surgical basis. It is equipped with ultrasound machines and taught by experts and fellowship trained regional anaesthetists. A variety of blocks are performed that caters to ambulatory practice.

Education/ Qualifications
  • On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC's Specialist Register or within 24 months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • ATLS / ETC or equivalent
  • Evidence of experience in critical care
  • Prehospital medicine training
  • MD, PhD
  • APLS or paediatric critical care experience
  • Cardiac or Vascular Experience
Clinical Expertise in Specialty/Sub Specialty
  • IT Skills and computer literacy
  • Experience of treating patients after injury
  • Previous work in a major trauma centre
Leadership/ Management Skills
  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Ability to lead the education of other medical professionals
  • Ability to work across specialties and be collaborative
Teaching and training
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff
  • Have set up or lead a teaching programme
Audit
  • Understanding of principles of clinical audit
  • Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement
  • Have presented quality improvement work or audit at a conference
Academic Achievements including Research/Publications
  • Peer reviewed publication/s in anaesthesia, intensive care or emergency medicine
Language
  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
