Job summary

Willis Re is building its data estate and seeking a Data Engineering Lead to architect and deliver a high-volume Snowflake platform in a fast-moving environment. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with architects and vendors, and shape data tagging, governance and quality across the business.

You will own end-to-end delivery from ingestion to curated data products, optimise cost and performance, and drive CI/CD, IaC and testing standards while aligning data strategy with risk and regulatory

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading delivery of a significant data platform end-to-end.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake development and platform architecture.
• Experience directing partners and enforcing standards.
• Background in data tagging, cataloguing and governance.
• Strong data modelling, ETL/ELT skills and Azure-based tooling.

Responsibilities

• Snowflake Development: architect and build the platform, ingestion, transformation, data models and curated data products, with focus on performance and cost.
• Tagging & Cataloguing: establish and maintain tagging, classification and cataloguing for discoverability and labeling.
• Data Governance: own governance including ownership, lineage, access policies and cross-border residency.
• Data Quality: define data quality controls, automated testing, monitoring and reconciliation.
• Scale & Archival: design for high data volumes with partitioning, clustering, storage tiering and retention policies.
• Architecture Contribution: contribute to data architecture with architects to shape target-state designs.
• Vendor Leadership: direct and quality-assure work of strategic delivery partners and ensure standards.
• Engineering Standards: set CI/CD for data, automated testing, observability and IaC.
• Grow the Team: mentor engineers and help scale the data engineering function.
