A leading underwriting firm in London is seeking an experienced SML Underwriter to manage a growing portfolio. You'll work closely with senior staff to quote new business and enhance broker relationships while maintaining compliance with underwriting guidelines. You will work closely with the Senior SML Underwriter and Management Liability Practice Leader to assist in building a profitable and fast growing portfolio within the SML binder guidelines and underwriting strategy and creating and maintaining positive broker relationships to generate new business.
You will contribute to the growth of an exciting new portfolio by quoting new business and renewals when applicable. You will assist in underwriting complex or large new business and renewals alongside the Senior SML Underwriter, attending client meetings or market presentations where required.
Drive business development by proactively nurturing broker relationships, including traveling to underwriting territories for conferences and targeted broker engagement. Learn to speak in-depth about the SML product across country-specific wordings and to understand local market nuances, ensuring our competitive edge.
Build and share knowledge of emerging trends in legislation, claims and other pertinent areas of exposure affecting the portfolio.You will develop familiarity with CFC’s various divisions and their products to enable cross-sell opportunities and collaboration, maintaining key points of contact with our Property & Casualty and Healthcare teams, and acting as an internal referral point and knowledge base when exploring cross-sell exposures.
You’ll bring hands-on underwriting experience in SML, Healthcare or General Liability insurance, backed by a genuine interest in expanding this class and building a new portfolio.
You are articulate and influential, naturally comfortable presenting to small and large groups. Highly analytical, with excellent logical reasoning and critical-thinking skills.
Strong numeracy complements your verbal and written communication abilities, allowing you to convey complex ideas clearly. Confident and self-driven, you thrive on meeting deadlines and hitting targets, and your strong work ethic ensures you perform effectively even under pressure.
You’re proficient in MS Office—particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook—and above all, you’re a collaborative team player passionate about growing a new portfolio.
