About your team:

At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it.

We’ve been powering UK homes and businesses for over 200 years – but energy supply is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK greener and more energy efficient, moving closer to Net Zero. Using tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels, and EV chargers, we help customers reduce their carbon footprint.

About your role:

Your mission: to help us mend it. Smart meters are key to a greener future. They send real-time data showing customers their energy usage and costs, helping them save. As an apprentice, you’ll learn to install, repair, and optimize these meters for customers.

At our academies, you’ll gain skills, qualifications, and experience to become a top-tier Smart Metering Engineer. Under supervision, you’ll visit homes and show customers how to save energy and reduce costs.

Skills needed:

• 4 GCSEs, including Maths & English, grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
• A CV demonstrating passion for learning a trade, mechanical or technical aptitude, and customer service skills
• A full UK driving license with 6 points or fewer
• Availability for training at one of our UK academies, with accommodation and travel provided if needed

What’s in it for you:

• Starting salary of £15,435, rising through milestones to around £31,597 during the apprenticeship, with a final salary of £37,104 after completion, plus bonuses
• London Weighting Allowance (£4,000–£6,000) depending on location
• An electric van for work, with charging facilities and a charge card
