Job description

Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. We deliver essential infrastructure services for life, prioritizing safety and being client and customer centric in a friendly, fun, and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Where will you be working?

At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives. We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering, and home decarbonisation.

This role will be within our Metering team. You’ll join the leading provider of metering services in the UK energy retail sector, offering efficient and flexible services for gas, electricity, and water meters. Our meter readers install, maintain, and manage meters to ensure customers are billed correctly and energy usage is monitored.

What will you be doing?

As an engineer, you'll respond to emergency and maintenance appointments on behalf of EON, ensuring customers' Smart Meters are functioning correctly. You’ll work independently, communicate with customers, and meet new people.

Customer service is our top priority. You’ll complete all jobs on time, explain the benefits and safe usage of their new smart meter, and help make a difference in their lives.

Your day will involve installing and removing smart meters (SMETS2) in customers’ homes, typically doing around 5 jobs per day. There’s an uncapped bonus for extra jobs completed. You’ll use your tablet to view your schedule, which is available up to 2 weeks in advance.

Continuous training will be provided to develop your skills. 83% of our field management team have been promoted from technician roles. We offer a career path with longevity.

Health and safety are central to our work. Your onboarding will prepare you to be an ambassador for safety. Weekly meetings and support from field managers ensure you’re never alone. No two days are the same, and there are many opportunities to excel.

What you’ll bring
  • Valid UK driving licence held for at least 1 year with fewer than 6 points
  • Experience installing gas and electric smart meters, with qualifications such as CCN1 / CMA1 / CMA3 with MET1, or NVQ Level 2 in Smart Metering Dual Fuel
  • Previous MOCOPA experience to a multi-rate level

Qualifications like REGT1, 3 phase, or registration on the EUSR portal are a plus but not required.

What’s in it for you?

We offer benefits to support your personal and professional life, including:

  • Matched or contributory pension scheme
  • 24/7 online GP service
  • Employee assistance programme
  • My Rewards portal with retail discounts
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to work, salary finance, and give as you earn schemes
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption leave
  • Reward and recognition schemes

This role also includes:

  • £1000 Safety Bonus annually, paid semi-annually
  • £1000 Attendance Bonus annually, paid semi-annually
  • Uncapped productivity bonus
  • Additional £1000 for qualified 3-phase or Medium Pressure
  • Overtime paid at time and a half or double time on Sundays
  • Career progression opportunities, with 87% of field managers promoted from DF engineers
  • Company van/vehicle and fuel card
  • Discretionary bonus scheme
  • Referral bonuses
  • Standby, overtime, and call-out pay
  • 22 days plus bank holidays, increasing with service
