Job summary

Building Careers UK is seeking an experienced Estimator - Small Works to join its commercial team in the North West. The role focuses on providing estimation for bespoke small works across construction and maintenance, handling bids from enquiry through adjudication.

Ideal candidates will have strong tendering experience, knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts, and the ability to manage multiple tenders while maintaining commercial integrity. A full UK driving license is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial Quantity Surveying or Estimating.
• Strong knowledge of the construction industry.
• Qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 4.
• Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Experience preparing estimates and tender submissions.
• Strong commercial and financial management skills.
• Experience coordinating subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
• Proficient with computerised systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming tender requests and review scope.
• Determine pricing requirements and resources.
• Develop competitive bids with budget holders.
• Prepare bid summaries for adjudication and approval.
• Prepare preliminaries assessments for tenders.
• Manage estimating from enquiry to submission.
• Evaluate tenders and prepare prime cost estimates.
• Review specs and contractual requirements.
• Identify commercial risks and liaise with managers.
• Prepare and present final bid submissions.
• Negotiate with contractors at bid stage.
• Coordinate subcontractor and material pricing.
• Prepare contract docs for handover to QS/Contracts Manager.
• Present tender bids to senior management.
• Monitor tender success rates and profitability.
• Manage multiple high-volume estimates simultaneously.
• Assist in developing the supply chain.
• Maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Attend meetings on behalf of Pre-Construction/Contracts Managers.
• Identify opportunities to grow the business.
• Follow commercial, financial and risk management procedures.
