Job description

Their client is a well-established independent small animal practice known for its supportive and enthusiastic team, high standards of care, and excellent facilities. They are currently seeking a veterinary surgeon-ideally with some experience-to join their friendly, collaborative team. The practice boasts a wide-ranging caseload, including referrals, advanced imaging, and surgery, all within a purpose-built, well-equipped environment.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of nine vets, including certificate holders and advanced practitioners in medicine, surgery, and cardiology. They will work closely with experienced colleagues to manage a varied caseload, contribute to referral cases, and develop their clinical skills across medicine, surgery, imaging, and emergency care. There are excellent opportunities for professional growth, supported career progression, and the chance to pursue certificates.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct consultations and follow cases through to resolution.
  • Perform surgical procedures including orthopaedics and advanced soft tissue surgery.
  • Participate in emergency and inpatient care alongside the nursing team.
  • Collaborate closely with senior vets for case discussions and training.
  • Utilise advanced diagnostic tools such as CT, MRI, ultrasound, and endoscopy.
  • Support the team in maintaining high standards of patient care and client communication.

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree with at least some clinical experience (new graduates considered).
  • Strong interest in small animal medicine and surgery.
  • Enthusiasm for professional development and learning new techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to contribute ideas and help grow the practice’s clinical services.
  • Salary ranging from £35,000 (new graduates) to £75,000 (advanced practitioners).
  • Four-day working week with a fair, balanced rota including 1:6 on-call (only Saturday morning consults, no additional weekend shifts).
  • Generous CPD support, including funding for certificates.
  • Paid professional subscriptions (BSAVA, BVA, ISFM, VCOT) and fees.
  • Comprehensive private healthcare plan (AXA) and Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Friendly team culture with social events and excellent work-life balance.
