Job Description:

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

NHS Grampian is offering an exciting 12-month secondment opportunity within the General Surgery Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, providing an excellent learning environment for those looking to deepen their expertise in acute abdominal care.

The role offers a unique opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-paced setting where you will be involved in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of acute abdominal conditions. As part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team, you will gain hands-on experience across multiple patient pathways, including the unscheduled and scheduled pathways, Surgical High Dependency Unit (SHDU), and Surgical Ambulatory Care (SAC), with a strong focus on abdominal surgical cases.

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care, utilizing advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage complex surgical conditions. The position requires a strong commitment to patient wellbeing and the ability to work collaboratively within the team.

During your secondment, you will:

  • Develop skills in assessing, diagnosing, and managing a variety of acute surgical conditions, enhancing your clinical knowledge and hands-on expertise.
  • Gain extensive knowledge in managing abdominal emergencies.
  • Refine skills in HDU care, supporting patients with complex needs, including trauma, gastrointestinal issues, and post-operative abdominal cases.
  • Gain hands-on experience in procedures such as abscess drainage, suturing, and drain management.
  • Contribute to a team that values collaboration, education, and continuous professional development.

This opportunity is ideal for an ANP who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting and seeks to enhance their knowledge and clinical practice. You will have the chance to maintain and develop your advanced clinical skills while supporting others in the team.

You will work alongside an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Foundation Year Doctors, and Physician Associates, collaborating with General Surgery Registrars, Consultant Surgeons, and other specialists.

If you hold a PgDip in Advanced Clinical Practice (or equivalent) and have experience in an ANP role, this secondment offers an exciting career development opportunity. Flexible working hours over five days with occasional weekend shifts will allow you to grow your expertise while contributing to a supportive, forward-thinking team.
