Role and service purpose
The SLP CAMHS Bed Management aims to ensure that a referred young person is managed through the most appropriate care pathway, inpatient care or Crisis services, and to reduce the time a young person waits unnecessarily in an A&E department. Be part of an experienced team who work to ensure that the best possible outcomes are achieved for the young people referred through the service. Be part of the senior team helping to ensure the bed management service continues to run efficiently and to contribute to the exciting changes that are happening within the service and the positive impact that will have on wider services and young people in crisis.
Responsibilities
- The SLP CAMHS Bed Manager will work as part of an experienced team of senior and junior bed managers, managing referrals for young people who are in a period of crisis and require extra support.
- The bed manager will work with referring community teams, crisis teams, ICBs, NHSE and inpatient services to ensure the best possible outcome for the young person.
- Data collection will be monitored and maintained as a key part of providing accurate reports for the Trusts and various other services working with bed management.
- The SLP senior bed manager will help the team lead with the management of the team to ensure the service delivery aligns with the Trust values and targets.
Service delivery and bed management
- Receiving and scrutinizing appropriateness of referrals; initial data collection; assess suitability; identify alternatives; locate appropriate bed prioritising SLP.
- Ensure accurate up-to-date bed management database during each 24 hour period, 7 days a week.
- Monitor and review young people in out of SLP placements, ensuring they only remain in those placements for the period it is clinically appropriate.
- Ensure that all essential information is received from referrers requesting inpatient beds across the SLP CAMHS services.
- Ensure that the young person referred is resident in one of the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Lambeth, Southwark or Croydon, or the Oxleas Boroughs of Bromley, Bexley or Greenwich or within the SWLSTG area. Referrals are also accepted at a National level but dependent on bed availability.
Communication, collaboration and governance
- Liaising and working positively with multi-disciplinary team and partner organizations; maintaining respectful, dignified care and equality and diversity.
- Maintaining accurate patient records (written and electronic) in line with Trust policy; using care plans and progress notes appropriately and timely.
- Contributing to ongoing quality of service, identifying risk issues and responding appropriately; contributing to clinical or governance reviews of the team’s activity and monitoring performance.
- Engaging in practice reflection through clinical supervision and reflective practice groups, and contributing to clinical supervision for junior staff where appropriate.
Legislation
- Demonstrating awareness of relevant and up-to-date Mental Health Law; adherence to legislation at all times.
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Programme Approach, Deprivation of Liberty, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Community Treatment Orders.
- Understanding of admission and discharge procedures; completing referral forms as necessary.
Administration and Leadership
- Ensuring electronic patient records are complete; writing reports and letters in a community setting.
- Engaging in clinical supervision and reflective practice groups; contributing to delivery of clinical supervision to junior staff.
- Demonstrating leadership within the clinical context of the community and supporting junior staff as appropriate.
