Job Description:

We currently have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to take on the important role of Slow Sand Filter Operator. This will be working out of our Water Production Site at Ashford Common - TW15 1RU.

As a successful candidate, you will play a key part in the water treatment process at Ashford Common. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and strives for high standards.

You will work in a small, dedicated team responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Slow Sand Filters (SSF) at our Water Treatment Works, ensuring the supply of clean drinking water to Reading and surrounding areas.

Your activities will include routine checks, maintenance, and operating mobile plant to ensure service delivery meets standards.

What you’ll be doing as the Slow Sand Filter Water Production Operator
  • Perform routine checks, maintenance, and operate mobile plant to meet service standards.
  • Focus on skimming filters, removing and relaying granular activated carbon (GAC), and re-sanding SSFs.
  • Operate specialist mobile equipment such as skimmers, loading shovels, dumpers, excavators, Floatex plant, and GAC separation plants.
  • Maintain site housekeeping, conduct plant checks, and perform maintenance tasks.
  • Follow health, safety, and hygiene regulations.

Base Location: Ashford Common - TW15 1RU.

Working pattern: Monday – Friday 07:30- 16:17, with every second Friday off (38 hours/week).

What you should bring to the role
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, eager to learn, and a team player.
  • Ownership mentality for fault response, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
  • Willingness to undergo safety training.
  • Preferably, a 7 Tonne Dumper license or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience with 360 Excavator, Loading Shovel, and Sand Skimmer is advantageous.
