Rokholt Recruitment Limited seeks an experienced Sliding Head Setter Programmer to join a busy precision engineering workshop in Newcastle-under-Lyme on a night shift. The role involves operating and setting sliding head CNC lathes, reading engineering drawings, and ensuring high quality, tight tolerances.

You will carry out first-off checks, use micrometers and gauges, adjust tooling offsets, and collaborate with production and inspection teams.

Sliding Head Setter Programmer - Night Shift

Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Industry: Precision Engineering

Shift: Nights 6am-6pm 3 days a week

Salary: £51,000 - £58,000

Client Overview

Our client is a well-established precision engineering business based in Staffordshire, supplying high quality machined components to a range of industries. They operate a busy, modern workshop environment and are looking to add an experienced Sliding Head Operator to work nights.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and ideally setting sliding head CNC machines, producing small to medium precision components from engineering drawings. You will be expected to maintain high quality standards, carry out inspection checks, and ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate sliding head CNC machines.
• Set machines where required, including tooling changes and offsets.
• Work from engineering drawings and job specifications.
• Produce precision-machined components to tight tolerances.
• Carry out first-off and in-process inspection checks.
• Use measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, gauges and callipers.
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments where needed.
• Check finished parts for quality and accuracy.
• Keep work areas clean, safe and organised.
• Work closely with the wider production and inspection teams.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Sliding Head Operator or Sliding Head Setter Operator.
• Experience with sliding head machines such as Star, Citizen, Tornos, Hanwha or similar.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Confident using precision measuring equipment.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Able to work to tight tolerances.
• Good understanding of tooling, offsets, feeds and speeds.
• Reliable, organised and able to work independently.

Desirable

• Experience setting sliding head machines.
• Fanuc or Mitsubishi controls experience.
• Experience editing programs at the machine.Previous background within subcontract precision engineering.
• Experience machining small, complex components.
