Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a Slab Track – Civils Design Interface Engineer to lead interfaces between track slabs and civil structures on the HS2 project. You will coordinate with Main Works Civils, Stations, and Systems teams, ensuring buildable, compliant interfaces and robust risk management across movements, tolerances and load transfer.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent; Chartered or approaching Chartered status preferred.
  • Experience in structures, geotechnics, civils or infrastructure, ideally within a rail environment.
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings, details, movement envelopes and tolerances and understand their implications for slab track alignment.
  • Familiarity with interface management, technical assurance processes, and formal workflows for design coordination (ICDs, risk registers, change management, requirements traceability).
  • Understanding of design procedures, British/Eurocode standards, and HS2‑specific standards and processes.
  • Strong communication – both interpersonal and formal reporting, able to influence decision‑making.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all design interfaces between viaducts, structures, tunnels, earthworks, and the Track System, ensuring an integrated, buildable slab track solution.
  • Interpret and assess structural and geotechnical behaviour, including movements and load transfer between slab track and platform.
  • Coordinate ICDs and maintain clear, auditable records with internal and external designers.
  • Participate in workshops, design reviews, and technical steering groups; prepare minutes and reports.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation relating to structural–track integration.
