Job summary

Farrans (Construction) Limited seeks an experienced Skilled Operative to support civil engineering site works in Peterborough. You will contribute to groundworks, drainage, and reinstatement, while following site drawings and RAMS to ensure safe, high-quality delivery.

The role requires strong health & safety awareness, teamwork, and the ability to operate small plant under training. CPCS/NPORS tickets and a full UK driving licence are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Skilled Operative in civil engineering, construction or highways.
• Ability to read and follow site drawings and instructions.
• Strong awareness of health and safety on site.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out groundworks, concreting, drainage, kerbing, paving and reinstatement.
• Operate small plant and machinery (rollers, dumpers, breakers) with proper training.
• Assist with installation of services and utilities.
• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to specification.
• Comply with RAMS and company procedures on site.
• Carry out quality checks and maintain high workmanship standards.
• Support colleagues to meet project deadlines.
• Maintain tools, plant and equipment in good working order.

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Skilled Operative to join our civil engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality site works, ensuring safety standards are met, and supporting the smooth delivery of projects across all sections.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide range of site tasks including groundworks, concreting, drainage, kerbing, paving, and reinstatement.
• Operate small plant and machinery (e.g., rollers, dumpers, breakers) in line with training and certification.
• Assist with the installation of services and utilities.
• Ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
• Comply with site safety rules, RAMS, and company procedures.
• Carry out quality checks and maintain high standards of workmanship.
• Support colleagues and supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met.
• Maintain tools, plant, and equipment in good working order.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Skilled Operative in civil engineering, construction, or highways.
• Competent in a variety of groundworks and reinstatement techniques.
• Ability to read and follow site drawings and instructions.
• Strong awareness of health & safety on site.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.

(Desirable but not always essential)

• CPCS / NPORS plant tickets (e.g., Dumper, Roller, 360 Excavator).
• Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation.
• Full UK driving licence.
