Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton is seeking an experienced machinist for 5 axis centre work, primarily aluminium and stainless fabrications. You will assist in setting up and proving out programs with engineers and ensure tooling supports the drawing tolerances.

The role offers night shifts, a 4.5-day working week, and strong opportunities for professional development within the Power & Controls division. Candidates with aerospace experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship or equivalent engineering training with hands-on machining experience.
  • Experience with 5-axis machine centres preferred (Doosan/Mazak/Matsuura).
  • Familiarity with inspection techniques and PC-DMIS is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Operate 5 axis machine centres accurately to produce aluminium and stainless fabrications.
  • Aid setup and prove out of programs with engineers.
  • Support tooling and maintain tolerances using correct inspection methods.
  • Carry out dimensional checks per program and operator sheets.
  • Set up and run programs in line with specifications and sheets.

What You Will Do
  • Day to day running of 5 axis machine centre (Doosan, Mazak & Matsuura)
  • The machining of complex aluminium and stainless fabrications
  • Aid the setting up and proving out of programs with Engineers
  • Support and manage the machine tooling to best achieve drawing tolerances
  • Carry out dimensional checks using the designated tools as defined by each program and Op sheet
  • Set up and run programs in accordance with the Op sheets and Program specifications
  • Escalate any issues, errors or concerns immediately to the Line Manager
  • Any other duties as required by your line manager
  • Support CORE and keep up excellent housekeeping practices
Shifts

This role requires flexibility to work night shifts.

  • 8.30pm till 6:15am Monday to Thursday
  • 9hrs 15mins shifts
  • Shift Allowance 30%

Experience We Prefer
  • Recognized engineering apprenticeship e.g. City & Guilds/ BTEC Level 3 or equivalent
  • Good level of numeracy and literacy

  • Setting & operating Various machine centre's
  • Vertical 5 axis machine centres - Doosan, Matsuura & Mazak would be ideal
  • Mazak Intergrex (Tilting 'B' Axis) experience
  • Aerospace or Oil & Gas background favourable
  • Self-Inspection
  • Various measuring/ inspection techniques
  • PC Dmis knowledge advantageous - CMM operating
  • Knowledge of machining Aluminium & Stainless fabrications
  • Understanding of adaptive machining - Renishaw probing essential
