An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced SEN Teacher to join a dynamic and inclusive sixth-form team at a thriving GOOD rated SEN school in Barking. The school caters to young people aged 4–18 with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, and Severe Learning Difficulties.
You will be working in the Sixth Form department, preparing pupils for adulthood and supporting them in developing life skills, independence, and employability through a personalised curriculum. About the Role:
As a Sixth Form SEN Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging and functional learning experiences that support students’ transition to adulthood. You will guide pupils through the development of independence, life skills, and work-related learning while collaborating with support staff, therapists, and external partners.
You will be expected to:
- Deliver well-structured, differentiated lessons adapted to meet individual EHCP outcomes.
- Teach across a life-skills curriculum including literacy, numeracy, community engagement, and employability.
- Plan work experience opportunities and support students in developing workplace behaviours.
- Collaborate with families and professionals to ensure consistent, person-centred learning.
We are looking for a member of staff who:- Holds Qualified Teacher Status;
- Is able to demonstrate the ability to adapt curriculum delivery to cater for all pupils’ needs;
- Has the ability to implement personalised goals and objectives to address the core features of SEN, based on each pupil’s strengths and identified needs;
- Is able to demonstrate they are able to organise themselves and others;
- Is able to be flexible in their approach to working and works as a member of a team;
- Exhibits strong teamwork skills, along with the ability to take on leadership roles when necessary;
- Shows a commitment to their own professional development;
- Demonstrates effective personal organisation, communication, and ICT skills;
- Has a proven record of good to outstanding practice in their career;
- Possesses some prior experience of working with pupils with special educational needs or is keen to work with our pupils.
