Job summary

Wates Property Services is seeking an experienced Site Surveyor to join a long-standing social housing contract delivering planned maintenance and retrofit programmes. The role focuses on surveying occupied homes while contributing to sustainability and energy-efficiency improvements across social housing stock.

You will survey properties, produce scopes of work, support project delivery and ensure works meet high standards of quality, compliance and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Surveyor or Site Surveyor or Planned Works Surveyor.
  • Strong background in social housing planned maintenance works.
  • Experience carrying out property inspections and producing specifications of work.
  • Relevant surveying qualification (HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and building pathology.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed property surveys across occupied social housing properties.
  • Assess and specify planned maintenance, refurbishment and retrofit requirements.
  • Produce accurate schedules of works, specifications and cost information.
  • Conduct pre-start, progress and post-inspection surveys.
  • Support retrofit measures including EWI, IWI, insulation, window/door replacements, ASHP, Solar PV, ventilation.
  • Ensure works comply with health and safety regulations and client requirements.
  • Liaise with residents, site teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
  • Monitor quality standards and identify remedial actions.
  • Support contract performance through accurate reporting and record keeping.

Job description

Wates Property Services is seeking an experienced Site Surveyor to join a successful and long-standing social housing contract delivering planned maintenance and retrofit programmes. This is an excellent opportunity for a surveyor looking to make a real impact within occupied homes while contributing to the delivery of sustainability and energy‑efficiency improvements across social housing stock.

Working closely with operational teams, residents, clients and subcontractors, you will play a key role in surveying properties, producing scopes of work, supporting project delivery and ensuring works are completed to the highest standards of quality, compliance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed property surveys across occupied social housing properties.
  • Assess and specify planned maintenance, refurbishment and retrofit requirements.
  • Produce accurate schedules of works, specifications and cost information.
  • Conduct pre-start, progress and post-inspection surveys.
  • Support the delivery of retrofit measures including:
    • External Wall Insulation (EWI)
    • Internal Wall Insulation (IWI)
    • Loft and cavity insulation
    • Window and door replacements
    • Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
    • Solar PV installations
    • Ventilation improvements
  • Ensure works comply with health and safety regulations, building standards and client requirements.
  • Liaise with residents, site teams, subcontractors and client representatives throughout project delivery.
  • Monitor quality standards and identify any remedial actions required.
  • Support contract performance through accurate reporting and record keeping.
What We're Looking For
Essential
  • Previous experience as a Surveyor, Site Surveyor, Assistant Surveyor or Planned Works Surveyor.
  • Strong background within social housing planned maintenance works.
  • Experience carrying out property inspections, condition surveys and producing specifications of work.
  • Relevant surveying qualification (HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent in Building Surveying, Construction or related field).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and building pathology.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good IT skills and experience using surveying software and Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
  • Experience working on retrofit or decarbonisation projects.
  • Knowledge of PAS 2035 principles and retrofit delivery programmes.
  • Experience of SHDF, ECO or other energy‑efficiency funded programmes.
  • Understanding of social housing compliance and resident‑focused service delivery.
