Site Supervisor / School Caretaker and Facilities Operative

A hands‑on role supporting safe, secure and well‑maintained school sites through maintenance, compliance checks and facilities support across one or more local schools.

SALARY: £25,583 to £25,989 pro rata per annum
LOCATION: We currently have vacancies at schools in Blagdon, Nailsea, Winford, the Chew Valley and Central Bristol areas
JOB TYPE: Full-Time & Part-Time, Permanent Positions Available
WORKING HOURS: 37 Hours per Week (Part-Time Hours Available and a variety of roles from Term Time Only to All Year Round)

We have some fantastic new job opportunities for a Site Supervisor / School Caretaker and Facilities Operative supporting the smooth running of school sites through maintenance, security and compliance tasks. As a Site Supervisor / School Caretaker and Facilities Operative you will help maintain safe premises, carry out routine checks, oversee site access and support facilities operations to ensure a positive learning environment.

The Site Supervisor / School Caretaker and Facilities Operative will work across one or more schools, contributing to an estates network responsible for site security, building upkeep, energy efficiency and daily operational support.

Duties
  • Site Security & Safety: Opening, closing and securing school buildings
  • Compliance Checks: Completing routine fire, alarm, emergency lighting and safety checks
  • Repairs & Maintenance: Undertaking basic repairs, decorating, and general DIY tasks
  • Grounds Care: Litter picking, basic gardening and ensuring safe access routes
  • Facilities Support: Setting up rooms and spaces for activities, meetings and events
  • Cleaning Support: Monitoring standards and carrying out emergency cleaning when required
  • Contractor Support: Meeting contractors, reporting issues and supporting small works
  • Supplies & Stock: Managing deliveries, organising materials and maintaining supplies
  • Record Keeping: Updating compliance records and meter readings on required systems
  • Energy Efficiency: Monitoring heating systems and identifying ways to improve efficiency
Candidate Requirements
Essential
  • Previous experience in a maintenance, caretaking or facilities support role
  • Good basic DIY, repair and practical problem‑solving skills
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Physically fit with the ability to undertake manual handling
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
  • Good communication skills with staff, pupils and visitors
  • Basic IT skills for updating records and compliance systems
Desirable
  • Experience with premises or facilities work in an education setting
  • Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • A background in building maintenance, caretaking or estates support
  • Pride in maintaining safe, clean and well‑presented school environments
