Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Site Supervisor to manage on-site activities for the Banniskirk 400kV and Spittal Substation extension projects. The role requires the successful applicant to be based in one of our Scottish locations and to oversee construction and commissioning works with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Solid engineering and construction knowledge with CDM awareness.
• Experience supervising site activities on complex construction projects.
• Understanding of project planning, progress tracking and quality expectations.
• Confident in reading plans, inspection test plans and progress reports.
• Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and basic project tools.

Responsibilities

• Represent SSEN Transmission on-site as the main point of contact with suppliers and contractors.
• Ensure works comply with contractual requirements, health and safety and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with contractors and operations to meet the project programme safely and within environmental guidelines.
• Lead on-site safety culture and ensure planning consents and SHE regulations are followed, with KPI reporting to Project Manager.
• Support colleagues, contractors and community partners to keep the project progressing smoothly.

Base Location:

For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Wick. The role is located at the Banniskirk Hub in Caithness, accommodation can be provided if required during working periods.

Salary:

£36,200 - £54,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern:

Permanent | Full Time | On site presence required 5 days a week with the potential of a rotational working pattern.

The role

SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Site Supervisor experienced in the principles of construction and commissioning of major transmission overhead line works, substations, and/or underground cables, ensuring strict adherence to the highest health, safety, environmental and quality standards, to the join the delivery team on the Banniskirk 400kV and Spittal Substation extension projects.

You will

• Represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site as a key site-based point of contact, ensuring the suppliers carry out works in accordance with contractual requirements and SSEN policies and procedures. A key element of this will be measuring completed works against the works information for payment purposes and management of compensation events.
• Ensure the project is executed in accordance with relevant requirements, particularly relating to statutory and legal obligations, health and safety, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, quality & technical compliance, personnel and industrial relations.
• Work closely with the appointed contractor(s) and the operations team to ensure the works are delivered to the project programme, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
• Act as a leader on site and champion for a positive safety culture. Ensuring site activities comply with planning consents and SHE legislation, and routine reports and KPIs are submitted to the Project Manager.
• Be a consistent and supportive presence on site, working with colleagues, contractors and community partners to ensure the project progresses smoothly

You have

• A solid engineering and construction knowledge including the safety and CDM regulations and a desire to apply them in a considerate and practical way.
• Experience in site supervision or construction at duty holder level of similarly complex works in construction or utilities. Experience in construction access works would also be beneficial.
• An understanding of project planning and in particular tracking progress against agreed plans along with working knowledge of quality requirements and experience in monitoring inspection and test plans.
• Confidence working with project plans, monitoring progress and quality, and helping teams stay aligned with agreed goals and inspection standards.
• Computer literate or familiarity with computer systems and ideally with the ability to use common software such as Microsoft Office packages.
• Good written and oral communication skills, including the capability of representing the project internally and externally.

Please note, a full current driving licence is essential due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
