About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Site/Section Engineer (Assistant Package Manager) to join our Major Projects team at the iconic Old Oak Common development in London.

HS2's new c. £1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK's best-connected rail station upon completion. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will oversee the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

The station will feature six underground platforms and up to eight on the adjacent Great Western Main Line, providing high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, the North, and direct links to three major airports. It will include passenger and retail facilities, offering an exceptional experience for passengers and visitors.

As a Site/Section Engineer (Assistant Package Manager), you will support the management of the WP10.2 Subcontractor for HS2 Headhouses and Ancillary Buildings, including Structural Steelwork, Cladding, Facade and Glazing, Reinforced Concrete, Fit-out, and interfaces with other work packages such as MEP, Urban Realm, and others.

What you'll be doing

Your main responsibilities as an Assistant Package Manager include:

  • Supporting the enforcement of quality standards across entrusted works, ensuring adherence to quality hold points and witness points by subcontractors.
  • Accurately reporting and documenting the progress of entrusted works.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of quality records provided by subcontractors.
  • Building strong working relationships with subcontractor engineers, works managers, and supervisors.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for BBVS package managers regarding site-related matters for your scope of work.
  • Issuing all necessary package documentation and communications to ensure successful delivery of the scope.

Who we're looking for

We seek candidates with:

  • SMSTS and CSCS qualifications
  • Experience in major civils or infrastructure projects
  • Experience with Steelwork, Cladding, Reinforced Concrete, and Fit-out
  • Understanding of quality assurance processes
  • Experience supporting subcontractor activity management for scheme delivery
  • A construction-related degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/MEng)
